Every child deserves the chance to thrive

Pediatric physiotherapy harnesses the remarkable plasticity of the developing brain and body. Through targeted, play-based interventions, children with neurological and developmental challenges can achieve milestones that transform their lives — and their families'.

Early intervention is not just beneficial — it is critical. The window of greatest neurological change is narrow, and expert guidance during this period can alter a child's entire developmental trajectory.

⚠️ Access to pediatric rehabilitation remains critically limited in Pakistan. Most children never receive the intervention they need. Qualified pediatric physiotherapists are essential to changing this reality.

The Power of Early Physiotherapy

The first three years of life represent the most critical window for neurological development. During this period, the brain is at its most plastic — capable of remarkable adaptation and learning.

  • Improves muscle tone, strength, and coordination
  • Supports achievement of motor developmental milestones
  • Reduces secondary complications of neurological conditions
  • Empowers parents with home exercise programs
  • Enhances quality of life for the entire family

Dedicated to Children's Potential

I am Sidra, a Doctor of Physical Therapy with a focused specialization in pediatric physiotherapy. My clinical journey has taken me through foundational hospital training and into the specialized world of developmental and neurological rehabilitation for children.

Working with children affected by cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, microcephaly, and developmental delay has shown me, time and again, that every child holds extraordinary potential — potential that the right intervention, at the right time, can unlock.

My mission is simple: to give every child I work with the strongest possible foundation for movement, independence, and a fulfilling life.

My Mission

"To provide compassionate, evidence-based pediatric physiotherapy that empowers children to reach their full potential — and equips families with the knowledge and tools to support that journey every day."

My Path in Physiotherapy

DPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy

Completed a rigorous, evidence-based DPT program covering musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, and pediatric physiotherapy, with clinical rotations across multiple specialties.

House Job

🌀

Cerebral Palsy

Neurological

What is it?

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of permanent neurological disorders affecting movement, muscle tone, and posture, caused by damage to the developing brain — most often before or during birth.

Common Signs

  • Delayed motor milestones (sitting, walking)
  • Abnormal muscle tone (too stiff or too floppy)
  • Asymmetric use of arms and legs
  • Difficulty with balance and coordination
  • Abnormal gait patterns

Role of Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is central to CP management. Therapists use neurodevelopmental techniques, stretching, strengthening, gait training, and adaptive equipment to maximize mobility, prevent contractures, and improve functional independence.

🧩

Down Syndrome

Chromosomal

What is it?

Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21) is a chromosomal condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21. It affects physical growth, cognitive development, and is associated with characteristic physical features.

Common Signs

  • Generalized hypotonia (low muscle tone)
  • Delayed motor development
  • Joint hypermobility
  • Short stature
  • Cognitive and learning differences

Role of Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy addresses the hypotonia that is central to Down Syndrome, supporting the development of head control, sitting, standing, and walking. Strengthening, balance training, and orthotic prescription are key components of the management plan.

💧

Hydrocephalus

Neurological

What is it?

Hydrocephalus is a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) accumulates in the brain's ventricles. This buildup increases pressure in the skull and can damage brain tissue, affecting motor and cognitive development.

Common Signs

  • Abnormally large head circumference
  • Delayed achievement of motor milestones
  • Spasticity or abnormal tone
  • Visual and balance difficulties
  • Irritability and poor feeding in infants

Role of Physiotherapy

Post-surgical and ongoing physiotherapy helps children with hydrocephalus develop optimal motor function, manage secondary complications like spasticity, and achieve developmental milestones through structured rehabilitation programs.

🔬

Microcephaly

Neurological

What is it?

Microcephaly is a condition where a baby's head is significantly smaller than expected due to abnormal brain development. It can occur as an isolated condition or as part of a broader syndrome.

Common Signs

  • Head circumference significantly below average
  • Intellectual disability (variable severity)
  • Delayed motor and speech development
  • Seizures in some cases
  • Feeding difficulties

Role of Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy supports children with microcephaly by facilitating motor development, improving muscle strength and coordination, and maximizing functional independence through individualized, goal-directed therapy programs.

📈

Developmental Delay

Developmental

What is it?

Developmental delay refers to when a child does not reach developmental milestones at the expected age. It can affect motor, speech, cognitive, and social development, and may be temporary or reflect an underlying condition.

Common Signs

  • Not sitting by 9 months, walking by 18 months
  • Persistent primitive reflexes beyond expected age
  • Poor head and trunk control
  • Difficulty with age-appropriate play activities
  • Asymmetric or unusual movement patterns

Role of Physiotherapy

Early physiotherapy assessment identifies areas of delay and designs targeted programs to close the developmental gap. Play-based intervention, sensorimotor activities, and parent training are all key tools in supporting children with developmental delay.
